Whiten your teeth at home

I decided to pop my teeth whitening cherry at a dentist, taking up one of their new introductory teeth whitening products. Philips Zoom daytime teeth whitening.

Philips Zoom Teeth Whitening kit, tray moulds, and teeth whitening toothpaste.
From bottom anti-clockwise: Philips Zoom Teeth Whitening kit, tray moulds, and teeth whitening toothpaste.

It’s a take home kit to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home. Safe, and saves on expensive dentist labour.

You arrange one appointment with your dentist to check your teeth are suitable, and create custom moulds of your teeth. These can be picked up a few days later and you can get whitening straight away! You get professional advise on how to use the kit and after care pointers.

Who would I recommend this for? People that have and hate sensitive teeth pains! This is a very slow and gradual way of whitening your teeth, so it’s not for people who want dramatic results.

The syringes contain the peroxide in one side and the activating ingredients and anti sensitive teeth serum in the other side to help reduce any whitening zings you may get. Don’t get me wrong, I did experience some degree of zinging during the first few days but was not unbearable.

How I used this:

  1. Brush teeth with a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.
  2. (Optional) if you’re able to take painkillers you can do this around a hour before you whiten. Eg. Paracetamol.
  3. Follow the directions by your dentist to prep and wear your teeth whitening kit.
  4. After the duration of whitening brush your teeth with a stain prevention tooth paste to maintain the pearly whites!
  5. Avoid teeth staining food and drinks.

Like anti ageing, prevention is key. So the more you prevent your teeth from staining the less you will need to do to upkeep it. Yes whitening teeth is an upkeep, as it naturally yellows from various factors.

What Philips say:

Philips Zoom is the only professional take-home whitening system with ACP (amorphous calcium phosphate).

As this unique formula whitens, it also:

  • Delivers enamel protection
  • Reduces sensitivity
  • Helps improve luster

My real results:

My teeth after two weeks of teeth whitening with Philips Zoom Daytime home teeth whitening.
My teeth after two weeks of teeth whitening.

You see some visible results and it’s a couple of shades lighter. I will personally probably keep whitening for a while, although it states that it will always be some degree darker at the gum line of your teeth I’ll see what happens.

I’ll be blogging a ‘How to choose a whitening toothpaste’ following this post.

As always talk to your friendly dentist for more information.
